PICO-UNION, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — An investigation is now underway into a carnival ride malfunction in Pico-Union.
The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health’s (Cal/OSHA) Amusement Ride and Tramway Unit said it is now investigating the incident.
Scary video shows some of the carriages of the ride, commonly known as The Zipper, slamming into each other on Friday at Bishop Conaty – Our Lady of Loretto High School’s “Family Fun Day” event.
Fortunately, no one was hurt, but witnesses say some riders were trapped for more than an hour.
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles sent Eyewitness News the following statement:
“We are grateful that no one was injured over the weekend when a carnival ride, operated by a third party, experienced a malfunction at a Bishop Conaty High School event. We are very thankful to the first responders who arrived to help. The event was able to proceed as scheduled. The safety and well-being of all in our parishes, schools and ministries remain our top priority.”
