Cadbury's ditches Heroes classic chocolate in major chocolate replacement

Cadbury has removed one of the classic chocolates from its Heroes seasonal boxes to make way for a new chocolate treat this Christmas. Ahead of the festive season, bosses at Mondelez International have decided to manufacture 300,000 Heroes paper tubs, which will be sold to customers over the winter period. However, one thing will be missing: the Cadbury Chocolate Eclair. According to reports, the classic chocolate treat will actually be replaced with the Cadbury Flake, which’ll be added to the other chocolates we all love so well in the Heroes box. Speaking about the new paper tubs design, Cadbury manager Christina Bland said: “The Heroes paper tub trial represents a step in our active work to explore new packaging solutions for our portfolio. “This trial will inform our long-term packaging approach, and we are also excited to introduce Cadbury Flake to the assortment for this trial, offering a new favourite for consumers to enjoy.” The rollout of the Heroes paper boxes is expected to be shipped to stores at the end of October, but it’s unclear when they’ll actually hit shop shelves. However, news of Cadbury ditching the Chocolate Eclair for the Flake has been met with some backlash among UK Facebook communities. One page, which features excited people sharing Christmas news, included over 500 comments about the news of the Eclair’s replacement. “Noooooo they can't take the éclair!!” fumed one person. Another added: “Putting more sweets in the tub would help to sell them instead of replacing one sweet with another.” A third said: “Good, eclairs are always last option.” Chocolate Eclairs were actually first invented back in 1932, but the version we now know came to fruition around 1965. It means that the chocolate treat, which features a chewy caramel shell wrapped around a chocolate centre, has been around for over 60 years. Last month, reports also revealed that supermarkets will be slashing prices on their selection boxes in some supermarkets, allowing customers to save £2 on purchases as of next month. According to The Sun, Heroes and Celebrations will be priced at £5 instead of £7 in Iceland stores, effective November 8.
