C/R: Queen Mother Urges Ghanaians to Seek Medical Care from Health Professionals, Not Pastors

The Paramount Queen Mother of the Ada Traditional Area, Naana K. D. Dumaaley, has urged Ghanaians to seek medical attention from qualified health professionals rather than relying solely on pastors and spiritual healers when they fall ill. Speaking in an interview with Nana Ansah, the Queen Mother expressed concern over the growing trend of people spiritualising their health problems, saying many prefer to seek deliverance in churches instead of visiting hospitals for proper diagnosis and treatment. She lamented that this attitude has led to the worsening of many preventable diseases among Ghanaians, especially women. According to her, several women battling serious conditions such as cancer continue to stay in churches, praying for miracles, instead of consulting medical experts for appropriate care. “Pastors don’t cure cancer and other illnesses. Unfortunately, some of them also fail to advise their members to go to the hospital for treatment,” Naana Dumaaley stated. The Queen Mother stressed the need for Ghanaians to prioritise their health and understand that seeking medical treatment does not diminish their faith. She called on religious leaders to encourage their congregants to combine faith with science by visiting hospitals whenever they are unwell. Naana K. D. Dumaaley further appealed to women, in particular, to go for regular health checkups, adding that early detection and proper medical care are key to saving lives. She concluded by reminding the public that while prayer is important, good health comes from responsible action — consulting medical professionals when sick.
