BYU quarterback commit Ryder Lyons receives mission call

BYU five-star quarterback commit Ryder Lyons opened his mission call Sunday. Lyons will serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after graduating from Folsom High School. On Sunday, Lyons went live on Instagram to read his mission call. He will serve a Spanish-speaking mission in Orlando, Florida, according to KSL’s Mitch Harper. Lyons announced his commitment to BYU on June 24 in an appearance on ESPN’s “The Pat McAfee Show.” The quarterback said that BYU was the first school to offer him a scholarship back in eighth grade. “They pulled the trigger on me. They believed in me early, and it’s just crazy how it all comes full-circle,” he told McAfee. Lyons was spotted at LaVell Edwards Stadium this season for BYU’s 24-21 win over Utah. While at the game, Snapback Sports asked Lyons why he chose BYU. “It came down to prayer, my faith, the track that BYU’s on. I mean, they’re 6-0 right now. They were 11-2 last year. The coaching staff, coach Kalani (Sitake), coach A-Rod (Aaron Roderick), how much love they showed me. They were my first scholarship. So just all those things combined, just knew this was home,” he said. In his senior season, Lyons has thrown for 24 touchdowns and six interceptions and completed 180 of 235 pass attempts for 2,468 yards through eight games, according to MaxPreps. Lyons has also rushed for seven touchdowns this season.
