Buzz Aldrin‘s wife Anca Faur died from an undisclosed form of cancer, according to a friend of the couple. In an interview with People, Bobby Charles — who held the Bible at their wedding in 2023 — shared what led to Faur’s passing at the age of 66 on Tuesday, Oct. 28. “Anca had a very rare kind of cancer,” he said, noting she “fought it valiantly” for “quite some time” and was “doing everything that could be done.” “I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a more positive and courageous and loving effort to live and fight for more time,” he continued, “Even if I was talking to her a month ago, I still would’ve been optimistic.” Ultimately, Charles conceded there was “nothing” that could’ve been done to successfully treat her “aggressive” cancer. “Both of them were the kind of people that when they get presented with a problem that most people might cave to or worry couldn’t be beaten, they look at things and they say, ‘Okay, how do we beat it?’ ” Charles said of Aldrin and Faur. “And, and they really did… but it’s just some things you can’t control.” RELATED: Buzz Aldrin’s Wife Anca Faur Dead at 66 The Faur and Aldrin families first announced her passing on Wednesday, Oct. 29 via a statement shared on Facebook. “Dr. Anca Aldrin, wife of astronaut Buzz Aldrin, peacefully passed away last night with her husband and her son, Vlad Ghenciu by her side,” the statement read. “Mrs. Aldrin, an accomplished chemical engineer with a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh, served as the treasurer for the California Hydrogen Business Council and as Executive Vice President of Buzz Aldrin Ventures LLC.” “I am so fortunate to have found and married the love of my life,” Aldrin, 95, added. “She brought joy to everything we did together. I will miss her dearly.” At the end of the statement, the family requested privacy during their time of mourning. Aldrin and Faur first met in December 2017 at a work event and began dating in May 2018. The couple said “I do” on Jan. 20, 2023 — Aldrin’s 93rd birthday. “It was a beautiful day,” Buzz told People at the time. “We had decided on a private ceremony, as suitably intimate, just us and the stars in the sky.” He also told the outlet he had “never been happier in my life” and was “lucky beyond words” to be with her. Aldrin was married three times prior to Faur, sharing children James, Janice, and Andrew with his first wife Joan Archer. Through her son, Faur had three granddaughters, Kaia, McCali, and Scarlett.
