As Scotland marks Climate Week 2025 Business Gateway Lanarkshire is encouraging local businesses to take action towards a more sustainable future. Climate Week (September 29 – October 5) is a national initiative led by Net Zero Nation, aimed at inspiring individuals and organisations to reduce their carbon footprint and embrace climate-friendly practices. Business Gateway Lanarkshire is supporting this movement by offering fully-funded expert consultancy support and one-to-one business advice to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across North and South Lanarkshire make meaningful sustainability improvements. “Supporting local businesses to reduce emissions and cut costs is a win for our economy and our environment. This fully-funded help gives SMEs the tools they need to take practical steps towards net zero, stay competitive, and seize new opportunities,” added Councillor Alex McVey, Convener of North Lanarkshire Council’s Enterprise and Fair Work Committee. Eligible Lanarkshire SMEs can access up to five days of fully-funded expert help consultancy support, tailored to their specific needs. This can include energy audits, advice on upgrading heating systems, and developing environmental policies – often essential when tendering – along with a range of other practical measures. In addition to expert consultancy, eligible SMEs can also apply for the Business Growth Fund, which offers up to £20,000 per project (50 per cent of eligible costs) to support initiatives such as energy efficiency upgrades, infrastructure improvements and digital transformation. This funding can help businesses accelerate their net zero journey while driving growth and competitiveness. St Andrew’s Hospice is one of the local organisations that has already benefited from net zero support, starting with an energy audit to inform plans for a large-scale solar panel installation project. “We were delighted to work with Business Gateway Lanarkshire on our sustainability journey. Access to expert advice has helped us plan our next steps as we continue to provide palliative and end-of-life care for our community,” said Joy Farquharson, chief executive of St Andrew’s Hospice.
