Bullying lands two 13-year-olds in court; duo admits to threatening female classmate

By Dorcas Ting KUCHING, Oct 30: Two 13-year-old students pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court here today to bullying a female classmate in a classroom incident that involved threats of violence and physical assault. According to the facts of the case, one of the boys threatened to stab the victim “hundreds of times” and made further threats involving sexual violence, while the other threw a correction tape at her, leaving a bruise on her cheek. Both students entered their pleas before separate magistrates earlier today. The first boy was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing hurt to the victim. The second was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code for issuing criminal threats. The incident occurred in a secondary school classroom in Padawan at approximately 2:20 pm on October 21. As both offenders are minors, the court ordered a social background report from the Welfare Department before sentencing. Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan released the first accused on bail of RM2,000 without deposit, with his parents as sureties, and set December 2 for case mention. Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan granted the same bail terms for the second accused and scheduled the next hearing for December 18. According to case details, the bullying began during a lesson when the victim’s classmates repeatedly disturbed and intimidated her. Unable to cope with the harassment, she later filed a police report. Following the report, a special investigation team was formed, led by Assistant Superintendent Sylvarius Gopog and assisted by Sergeant Ridvaner Haddi. The two boys were subsequently arrested. Investigations confirmed that one of the boys issued violent threats referencing a previous school bullying case in Peninsular Malaysia, while the other caused injury by throwing an object. The victim has reportedly been left fearful and traumatized, reluctant to return to school. Several witnesses were present during the incident. The case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Chuah Kai Sheng, while Inspector Muhamad Hafizin Harun served as the investigating officer. Both boys were accompanied by their parents in court and were not represented by lawyers. – DayakDaily
