Bullying cannot be brushed off as pranks, PRS calls for urgent action to end it

KUCHING, Sept 24: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) has called for urgent action to tackle the growing problem of bullying in Malaysia, stressing that it must no longer be dismissed as mere “pranks” or harmless fun.

PRS executive secretary Wallace Paul Kilat said bullying must never be tolerated, as it creates unsafe environments for students and strips them of their dignity.

“Enough is enough. It is deeply troubling when bullying or so-called ‘pranks’ are brushed off as harmless fun. No student should ever be made to feel humiliated, unsafe, or disrespected, whether in school, online, or anywhere else.

“When a victim tolerates such treatment, it risks setting a dangerous precedent: that this behaviour is acceptable, that silence equals consent. Let us be clear, it is not acceptable,” he said in a statement today.

He urged parents, educators and students to remain vigilant and work together in fostering a culture of respect, empathy and accountability.

“If we fail to act, we risk allowing cruelty to masquerade as entertainment,” he warned.

He also encouraged students to speak up and stand firm against bullying, reminding them that they deserve dignity and safety.

“And know that you are not alone. To every parent: Stay alert. Stay involved. Your voice matters. Let’s build a Malaysia where kindness is the standard, not humiliation,” he added. — DayakDaily
