Opportunity has a way of arriving when you least expect it. For Ashley, owner of EU Insurance in Elviria, that moment came nearly 22 years ago, at a time when she wasn’t looking for a career change. A friend offered her a part-time role at an insurance agency, simply as a way to lend a hand. What seemed like a short-term commitment quickly turned into a lifelong passion – one that would transform not only her professional life but her personal journey as well.

Ashley took to the industry with a natural drive and enthusiasm. Within a matter of months, her commitment and capability became evident, and she was asked to step into the role of claims handler. Far from daunted, she embraced the position wholeheartedly, finding a genuine connection with the work. To this day, handling claims remains one of her favourite aspects of the job. It was in that role that Ashley began to develop a deep, hands-on understanding of how insurance policies function in real-life scenarios. This foundation became instrumental as she moved into underwriting and, eventually, began managing the entire agency.

Her path, however, wasn’t linear. Life took Ashley abroad when her then-husband’s career brought them to Italy and Cyprus. Despite the geographical changes, her interest in insurance remained. When the opportunity arose to return to Spain – a place she considers home – Ashley wasted no time reconnecting with the industry. She joined EU Insurance and quickly proved herself as a valuable asset to the team.

When Wendy, the agency’s former owner, decided to retire, Ashley was the natural successor. Having worked her way up from employee to leader, she was more than ready to take over. Today, Ashley stands at the helm of EU Insurance, leading the company with the same energy and care she brought to her very first role. It is a dream realised through hard work, determination, and an unwavering love for what she does.

For Ashley, insurance has never just been about numbers, policies or paperwork. At the heart of her work lies a genuine desire to help people. She views her role as a guide – someone who supports clients through what can often be a confusing and stressful experience. Navigating the insurance landscape in Spain, especially for expats unfamiliar with the local systems, can be challenging. Ashley believes empathy is just as crucial as technical knowledge when it comes to building trust with clients. Her approach is personal, patient and always focused on the individual behind the policy.

But Ashley’s passion doesn’t stop at client care. Equally important to her is the development and wellbeing of her team. Raising two children in Spain while running a business is no small feat, yet Ashley has found a way to balance both worlds. She is especially grateful that it has allowed her to remain rooted in Spain, a country she loves, while also building a meaningful and successful career.
