The Las Vegas Raiders find themselves in a must-win situation to salvage their 2025 NFL season. Should the Silver and Black fall to 1-4, other teams across the league will be circling to see what players they can pick off heading into the trade deadline.
Despite riding a three-game losing streak, the Raiders have several veteran players who could entice a team to spend the draft capital to acquire them. So, who could be on the move should Las Vegas lose on October 5 against the Indianapolis Colts?
On the October 3 edition of “CBS Sports HQ,” CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson explained why he believes the Tampa Bay Buccaneers should be in on veteran wide receiver Jakobi Meyers.
“Another team that came to mind were the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,” Wilson said as he began to explain why Meyers would be ideal for Tampa Bay. Maybe Jakobi Meyers, who wanted a new deal in Las Vegas, didn’t get it. Mike Evans has been banged up. Bucky Irving is not going to play this week, and they could certainly use some wide receiver help both in the short term while Evans is out, but also [he] in the long term is going to be truly special.
“But Jakobi Meyers is a production machine, and he can do all the dirty work underneath. As Baker Mayfield continues to sort of refind himself after leaving a situation in Cleveland and Carolina and [with] the Rams that didn’t quite work out, he’s found his home in Tampa Bay.”
Do the Raiders Want to Flip Jakobi Meyers for Assets
In September, The Athletic’s Tashan Reed stated that he doesn’t see the Silver and Black having in-season contract extension talks with Meyers to secure him for the foreseeable future. As a result, if the Raiders fall to 1-4, could they consider an offer from Tampa Bay?
“I would be pretty surprised [if the Raiders extend Meyers], just because when you draft somebody like [Jack] Bech, who basically has the same skills as Jakobi Meyers, it doesn’t really make sense,” Reed said on “Foxboro Rush.”
“It’d be one thing if Bech was a fourth-round pick, fifth-round pick, but a second-round pick—you expect that guy to be a starter, and you expect it to be a starter soon.
“Now, that’s the case. It just doesn’t really make sense to have him and Jakobi Meyers around. I would be pretty surprised if they extend Meyers at this point, just because it doesn’t seem to add up with their moves in the offseason.”
The Raiders Have a Decision to Make
On September 3, Meyers spoke to the media and discussed how contract extension talks unfolded between him and Las Vegas.
“I asked; they said no,” Meyers said (h/t Pro Football Talk). “That’s where that stopped. I’m just going to keep doing my job until something shakes out either way. I don’t know which way it’s going to go, but I’ll be ready for whatever.”
