BRS slams BJP MP Vishveshwar Reddy’s insensitive remarks over Chevella road mishap

Hyderabad: BRS leader P Karthik Reddy lashed out at BJP MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy for making insensitive political remarks on the Chevella road expansion, even as families grieved victims of the recent bus accident. He said that while the previous BRS government completed all formalities, including land acquisition, the Centre was yet to begin work on the road, which was declared a national highway in 2021. Speaking at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday, Karthik Reddy said Vishweshwar Reddy was supporting the Save Banyans organisation that secured an NGT stay on the project in 2023 and blaming the previous BRS government for road alignment. "How did you become an MP without knowing national highway alignments are decided by engineers of the Centre? Are you blaming your own government for stalling the project?" he asked. Taking a sharp dig, he ridiculed the BJP MP's claim that good roads cause more accidents. He retorted, "By that logic, if there is no food, no one goes hungry; if there are no houses, HYDRAA cannot demolish them; if there is no electricity, shocks would not happen." Karthik Reddy blamed the Congress government for two years of inaction, stating that though tenders and land acquisition were completed during the BRS regime, proposals were not pursued with the Centre for past two years. He said repeated assurances from Ministers Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and D Sridhar Babu in the Assembly, never materialised. Former MLAs Methuku Anand and Pilot Rohit Reddy accused the government of neglecting public safety and prioritising politics over people's lives. They warned to conduct a protest march from Tandur to Vikarabad if the road work does not start immediately.
