Browns' Kevin Stefanski Considering Huge Coaching Change

Kevin Stefanski and the Cleveland Browns are heading into the bye week. After the showing that they put together in Week 8 against the New England Patriots, the bye week couldn’t arrive soon enough. So far this season, the Browns have mustered up a 2-6 record. It hasn’t been pretty. For the second year in a row, Cleveland appears to be headed towards a very high draft pick. There are not a lot of reasons for fans to be extremely excited about the future. Stefanski and Andrew Berry have a lot of work ahead of them to turn the Browns back into a playoff contender. Many want to see Shedeur Sanders named the starting quarterback. Stefanski doesn’t seem to be at that point, but he is considering a major coaching change. Kevin Stefanski of the Cleveland Browns looks on from the sideline before an AFC wild-card playoff football game against the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium on January 13, 2024 in Houston, Texas. According to Stefanski himself during Monday’s press conference, he will take a look at giving up play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Tommy Rees. “I need to spend time on all those things, and I think it’s by position we have to be better and we have to put our players in better spots, if you will,” Stefanski said. “So, we’ll look at all of it this week and make a decision coming out of the bye.” Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com doesn’t think a change of play-calling duties would be a bad thing. “Last season, Stefanski turned the play-calling over to former offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey after Deshaun Watson went down with his re-torn Achilles in October, but things didn’t get any better down the stretch,” Cabot wrote. “Perhaps a switch to Rees, who called plays at Notre Dame, where he played quarterback, and at Alabama, might jumpstart the sluggish unit.” Heading into the second half of the season, there is no doubt that Stefanski’s seat is getting warm. There have been plenty of calls for Cleveland to fire him following the 2025 season. That being said, if the product on the field doesn’t improve soon, the Browns might have to make a change. Things do not look good in Cleveland. Hopefully, the Browns can begin figuring things out throughout the remainder of the season. For more on the Cleveland Browns and general NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.
