How stars pull off their looks with just two weeks notice

All the head turning looks

Charli Wheeler has us in a flap

Wheeler’s dove grey gown has a pleasing touch of the pigeon about it, with a plunging neckline and exaggerated hip details.
The striking dress is from new label Atalie Studios, which is launching into the public eye by dressing a number of guests this evening.
The black clutch brings the ensemble down to earth. Next time, we suggest following the lead of Carrie Bradshaw in And Just Like That and carrying JW Anderson’s Pigeon clutch.

For anyone hoping to hear from Geelong star Bailey Smith, don’t hold your breath.

Smith is a high chance of taking home the coveted Brownlow medal tonight, but he wasn’t keen on chatting with us.
A small wave is all we managed to get. Perhaps he’ll have a little more to say later tonight.

Marketing executive Jess Butler put her faith in Jason Grech for the second time, after the Melbourne couturier dressed her for her Brownlow debut last year.

“He knows what works for me,” says Butler, supporting her partner Max Holmes, who plays for Geelong. “It’s astonishing seeing his process. Last year we had a deep cowl neck with a backless moment, so he has gone for that trend again. It’s just gorgeous.”
Grech is happy with the result and is once again excited about designing for the event, having taken a hiatus for a number of years.
“It did get a bit trashy for a while,” Grech says.

Red alert from Bec Judd 2.0
By Damien Woolnough

Content creator Elle Erifilli Rayias did her homework before hitting the red carpet in an Oglia Loro gown.

The plunging red gown is textbook Brownlow, borrowing a page and neckline from Rebecca Judd’s iconic Ruth Tarvydas dress, worn to the 2004 ceremony.
Rayias, known as Elle Ray on social media, worked with veteran Brownlow stylist Lana Wilkinson on the look, updating it with an updo hairstyle, instead of Judd’s loose waves.

Stylist Bianca Rose is dressing multiple couples tonight, but more than half of them aren’t even in the room with her.
In fact, they are in a completely different state.
Rose is styling Brisbane Lions brothers Will and Levi Ashcroft and Josh Dunkley, and their respective partners.
However, since Brisbane will play in Saturday’s grand final against Geelong, the players will not be in Melbourne for the ceremony tonight.

It’s been a whirlwind week for Rose, who had to quickly organise for her assistant to travel to Brisbane and make sure all the gowns and gear arrived safely.
“I’ve got two teams running simultaneously today, which is stressful but exciting,” Rose said.
Was she happy that Brisbane beat Collingwood, or did it make her job way more stressful?
“That’s a double-edged sword,” Rose laughed.
“I absolutely love the boys, and I totally admire what they do, and I was very happy for them… for my business, totally not.”
“I would have loved to have them on the Melbourne carpet, but they will absolutely shine over there in Brisbane.”

Marvellous in metallic

It’s already a case of déjà vu with our first red carpet arrival Lexi Mary, partner of Bulldogs defender Rory Lobb.

The metallic gown with a swooping neckline is strangely reminiscent of the dress worn to last year’s ceremony by Paris Bishop, the model girlfriend of Essendon player Sam Durham.
Fortunately, it’s not a case of copycat couture, with both gowns coming from Alin Le’ Kal.
If you’re onto a good thing, stick with it.

The question on everyone’s lips… to glambot or to not glambot?
By Hannah Hammoud

GWS Giants defender Lachie Ash and his partner Eliza Spinks are having a matching moment on the red carpet, both dressed head-to-toe in black.
Speaking ahead of the event, Spinks revealed that most guests only get about two weeks’ notice before the Brownlow. So by the time they’re aware they’ve gotten a gig to the event, the countdown has begun.

Luckily, she managed to find a stunning last-minute gown from Velani by Nicky.
“She’s just incredible, I’m so lucky to wear it tonight,” Spinks said.
The gown is on loan, and Spinks has promised to dry-clean it before returning it to the designer in Sydney.
We asked Spinks the big question: should there be a glambot on the red carpet?
For the uninitiated, a glambot is a robotic arm fitted with a high-speed camera that captures dramatic, slow-motion footage – a viral red carpet staple in the US.
“I don’t know, they’re pretty daunting,” Spinks laughed.
“In America, it’s such a thing … but I don’t know if I can do that. It could either go really good or really bad.”
