A broken water line forced the cancellation of classes Monday at Westside High School.
A contractor arrived at the school in the morning, and repairs continued throughout the day, according to an email sent to families, students and staff at 4 p.m.
In an email Monday night, the school said staff and students should plan on there being school Tuesday, but an official decision won’t be made until Tuesday at 6:15 a.m.
“Our crews have been hard at work all day repairing the private water line break at WHS,” the email said. “The job has been a big one, digging into the parking lot and repairing underground pipes, but strong progress has been made. Crews will continue working through midnight, and if all goes as expected, water service should be restored before school begins tomorrow (Tuesday).”
The break was reported beneath the main parking lot about 8:20 a.m., district spokesperson Elizabeth Power said. Grounds crews heard “gurgling” sounds beneath the cement and investigated.
An MUD crew responded and reported that the main water line to the school had broken, she said. The line was shut off and a contractor was called in to make repairs.
Monday night’s freshman football practice was canceled, Power said. All other after-school activities had been moved to other locations, she said.
