Another holiday-maker also fell and was seriously injured in the same incident in the Lanzarote resort town of Costa Teguise. The tragedy, which has shaken the tourist town, happened in the early hours of Saturday morning. The two Brits, aged 56 and 54, fell from the height when the railing collapsed, according to local media. The 56-year-old man died on the spot while the other was admitted to the ICU of the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Emergency services rushed to the scene after receiving reports of a fatal fall at around 1.30am. Upon arrival, the health teams could only confirm the death of one of those affected, while the other was stabilised and rushed to hospital. The Civil Guard has opened an investigation to determine the exact causes of the event and assess whether there was negligence in the maintenance of the railing or in the security of the hotel. The name of the hotel has not been revealed. It is unknown whether the two Brits were related in any way. Daily Mail has approached the Foreign Office for comment. The tragic incident comes a month after a British pensione plunged to his death from a balcony in Thailand. Cops were called to the D-Beach Hotel in the Thai 'Sin City' Pattaya after the 74-year-old man allegedly fell from the 10th floor on the evening of September 6. The holidaymaker, from Wales, was found lying face-down in a pool of blood, next to a busy road. Police blocked the scene with white cloth as they collected evidence from the area. Phanuthat Thanakasemphakin, a Pattaya Special Affairs officer, said he was working around 20ft away when he heard a loud bang 'like a transformer explosion'. Police Lieutenant Manasak Ponyiam of the Pattaya City Police Station said: 'We have inspected the scene and collected evidence. 'The deceased had been staying on the tenth floor of this hotel. We checked his room and found no trace of assault or ransacking. 'We also checked the security camera for the entire previous day, which showed no one entering or leaving the room except for the victim until his death. 'We still do not know if it was an accident or suicide. 'The body was sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for a post-mortem exam. We will question hotel employees to determine the cause of death.'
