British comedian faces backlash over controversial Charlie Kirk comments

A British comedian has sparked outrage online after her comments following the death of Charlie Kirk . The American political activist was shot dead last week during a debate in Utah. Gina Yashere has now faced backlash for saying he “got what [he] advocated for,” referring to Kirk’s previous stance against gun control. The 51-year-old comic accused Donald Trump’s ally of spreading hate in his speeches, describing him as “xenophobic, transphobic, homophobic, racist, misogynist and sexist” in her rant online, the Mirror reports. Yashere, known for her appearances on shows like Mock The Week, went on: “That hate directly affected people, that isn’t political difference. If you are preaching something that is directly going to get me eradicated on the streets, that isn’t political difference, as far as I’m concerned that’s terrorism.” “Charlie Kirk got what Charlie Kirk advocated for. He wanted more guns on the streets. He didn’t mind a few kids being shot to death in their classrooms or the odd Democrat being murdered in their home,” the comedian continued. “I don’t believe in heaven and hell. But just in case there is, Charlie Kirk is going down there. And if he does, I hope he gets dropped off by a black pilot.” Her final comment referred to one of Kirk’s earlier statements, in which he spoke about what he saw as “positive discrimination” in favour of non-white pilots. However, her comments sparked mixed reactions online. One user hit out, saying: “You’re so wrong in many ways.” Another questioned: “Are you saying that it was ok for him to be killed??” Yashere, who has relocated to the US, revealed that the move helped her fully embrace her identity as a lesbian, admitting she would never have come out publicly in England. Her remarks come amid other celebrity controversies over comments made online, regarding Charlie Kirk. Bob Vylan moved to clarify his actions on stage after appearing to celebrate Kirk’s death, but despite his denial, Piers Morgan was among those who refused to believe his explanation. A 22-year-old Utah native is accused of shooting Kirk at the Utah Valley University event. Tyler Robinson messages were uncovered by the FBI, where he indicated he would kill the MAGA activist prior to the shooting. In the chilling message, the FBI revealed that Robinson had pledged to seize the opportunity to “take out” the firebrand activist. “He had an opportunity to take out Mr Kirk and was going to make use of it,” director Kash Pattel said. The FBI chief added that DNA linking Robinson was found on a towel wrapped around the bolt-action rifle used in the killing. Investigators also found a screwdriver on the rooftop from which the fatal shot was fired, along with text messages in which Robinson allegedly expressed his intent to murder Kirk.
