The cockapoo has been crowned Britain’s most pampered pooch - with owners typically forking out £134 per month feeding their trendy pet. A study found the fashionable Cocker Spaniel-Poodle cross was one of five breeds that cost pet parents well over £100 a month to nourish. Golden Retriever owners splurge an average of £115 per month feeding their mutt, while the monthly food bill for a Labrador is £112, shows data from Nottinghamshire-based pet food makers Years.com. Border Collies and German Shepherds round off the top five most costly fidos to feed at £112 and £111 a month respectively. Favourite dishes include “steak & kidney hotpot”, “turkey thigh cranberry fricassee” and “chicken brainy bites”, said the dog food firm, revealing its top-sellers. Its research found Jack Russells were the least doted on doggies, with owners typically spending £90 per month on grub. The titchy terriers are followed by Dachshunds (£93), French Bulldogs (£99), Pugs (£104) and Cocker Spaniels (£105). Owners in Yorkshire spent the least on their four-legged friend’s diet at an average of £80 per month. While those from the South East shelled out the most - an average of around £99 each month. The report said: “Jack Russell owners spend 33% less on food than Cockapoo owners. “While the average Cockapoo’s dinner budget could buy a week’s grocery shop for a family of four. “The UK’s doggy dining bill varies by over £400 a year depending on breed.” Years.com founder and CEO, Darren Beale, added: “Whether your pup is a proud Jack Russell on a budget or a Cockapoo with champagne taste, the most important thing is that they’re getting nutritionally complete meals that support their long-term health.” Britain’s top five most costly Fidos to feed (per month): 1.
