Brit tourist 'stabs friend to death before dragging body through hallway'

A British tourist was allegedly stabbed to death in Hungary by his friend who then tried to drag his body along a hallway at a holiday apartment in Budapest. Authorities responded to reports that a British man had been attacked with a knife at 4.13am yesterday morning in the Erzsébetváros district of the Hungarian capital, a well known party district. In a statement local police detailed how officers had tried to provide assistance to the injured man, described as a 28-year-old holidaymaker, but they were unable to save him. Cops questioned a 34-year-old man, reportedly a friend of the victim, who admitted to the killing and was arrested and taken into custody, the statement said. An investigation has now been launched by the Budapest Police Headquarters’ Life Protection Department on suspicion of murder. The two men, both from the UK, had reportedly gone out partying in the lively Erzsébetváros area before returning to the nearby apartment, the Hungarian Bors outlet reported. “Around 3 a.m. we heard a fight, then a fight, then some smashing and smashing. Then it was suddenly quiet,” a witness told reporters. An argument allegedly broke out which led to violence, authorities said. It is believed the incident took place at the apartment which the two men had rented while partying in the city. The apartment blocks in the area they were staying are a tourist hotspot, according to local media, with many of the flats rented by holidaymakers rather than residents. Images from the scene showed police officers standing on a balcony in one of the blocks while holding up a white tarpaulin to shield the victim from view. Meanwhile other cops could be seen combing through rubbish in search of the knife that had been used in the stabbing. Horrified residents reported that the suspect had been in the act of dragging the victim’s body along the corridor outside the holiday apartment when police officers arrived on the scene. By the time cops showed up a pool of blood had already formed outside the door, shocked witnesses said.
