A comedy horror script about a Welsh hiking trip gone wrong and a feature from The Gilded Age star Blake Ritson and his brother have landed the most nominations at this year’s Brit List. The annual list, which promotes top unproduced projects from up-and-coming UK talent, has just unveiled its winners at a gathering in London, with One Day actor Robert Cawsey’s Don’t Even Go There topping the list with 24 recommendations. The movie script follows a family hiking trip in Wales, which is intended to bring protagonist Will and his estranged parents closer but goes horribly wrong when an ancient monster is unleashed, seeking revenge on the locals. Cawsey has starred in the likes of One Day, The Boys in the Boat and the upcoming Wuthering Heights remake. In second place with 20 recommendations is P.O.V. from Gilded Age star Blake Ritson, who plays Oscar Van Rhijn in the HBO hit, and his brother the playwright Dylan Ritson, which is set in a dystopian world where state-issued glasses control everyone’s outlook on life. A number of the projects on this year’s list feature similar dystopian themes. Dylan Brady’s Discretion, which is being developed with House of Guinness producer Kudos, garnered 18 recommendations for a TV script about a struggling actor who plots to seduce his employers and gain advantage from their industry connections. Behind Discretion is Jack Holden’s Revolting and Lewis Wren’s Always Greener, both with 15 recommendations. Possibly reflecting the current state of the industry, only three of the list are attached to indies, the other two apart from Discretion being Stephanie Yamson’s For Such a Time As This with Five Acts Productions, and Anoushka Warden’s I’m F*cking Amazing with Fifth Season in association with Amy Adams’ Bond Group Entertainment. Brit List founder Alexandra Arlango said this year’s list of 15 comes close to male-female parity and half are from historically underrepresented voices. “In this year’s list we have a strong collection of unique voices that take us into fresh, bold worlds,” she added. “Interestingly, this year there is a high number of scripts in the sci-fi and horror genre, but these are balanced with a higher number of scripts that lean into comedy.” The Brit List launched in 2007.
