Chaitanya Sravanthi president Shirin Rahaman called upon women to be aware of the consequences of breast cancer and the importance of its early detection. She was speaking at an awareness camp organised as part of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the Chaitanya Sravanthi office on Wednesday. Dr. Shirin Rahaman called upon women not to ignore changes, such as oozing of blood or lumps in the breast, and to consult a doctor immediately, if these symptoms are noticed. She added that breast cancer can be cured, if detected in the first two stages, but in becomes difficult to treat in the later stages. Expressing concern she said that breast cancer mortality rates in India were higher compared to other countries. She suggested that women above the age of 35 should undergo self-examination of their breasts at least once a month, and to go for testing.
