Oscar Ibru: Family confirms passing after brief illness

The Ibru family announced the tragedy on Wednesday, September 24.

Releasing a statement on Wednesday, September 24, which was broadcast by Arise News, Ibru family stated that Ibru passed away after a brief illness.

Additional details about the circumstances of his death were not available, Vanguard reported.

Legacy of the Ibru dynasty

A known name in the Nigerian business circles, Ibru was one of the most renowned sons of the Ibru family.

He was pivotal in maintaining and growing the conglomerate founded by his late father, Olorogun Michael Ibru.

Michael Ibru’s Ibru Organisation expanded to become a giant empire with shipping, oil and gas, real estate, and commerce as its areas of interest.

Oskar Ibru’s death happened just a decade after the patriarch passed away in 2016.

Tributes from across Nigeria

Reactions have continued to pour in following news of Ibru’s death. Media entrepreneur and publisher of Ovation International, Dele Momodu, paid tribute to him in a heartfelt message, Punch reported.

In a post on Instagram, Momodu wrote:

“News has just reached me in the skies that one of Nigeria’s most recognisable businessmen, OLOROGUN OSKAR IBRU, has passed on… He was an extremely friendly gentleman, and a socialite per excellence, who was loved so passionately by families and friends… He was the son of the business Titan, OLOROGUN MICHAEL IBRU… Rest in peace, dear Brother…”

The family noted that funeral details will be made public in due course.

Ibru’s daughter weds in Morocco

Legit.ng had reported that Nenesi Ibru tied the knot with the love of her life, with something worth doing in a stylish ensemble.

Nenesi, who is the daughter of Oscar Ibru, made things official with her man, identified as Chinedu Okeke, on Saturday, November 6, 2021.

Photos from the ceremony have since surfaced on social media, and in all of them, the lady of the day stands tall and elegant in her perfectly designed dress.

Although the designer of the dress remains unknown, it goes without saying that for the daughter of a Nigerian billionaire, a lot of coins went into making that dress a reality.

Ex-minister Audu Ogbeh dies

Earlier, Legit.ng reported the death of Audu Ogbeh, a former national chairperson of the PDP.

Ogbeh, who hailed from Benue state, was the national chairperson of the PDP from 2001 to 2005 when he was removed in controversial circumstances during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
