The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State has lost its deputy chairman, Hon. Aliyu Yakubu Barde, to the cold hand of death. The demise of the party leader has thrown the state chapter of the APC into mourning.

Family sources confirmed the death of the APC chieftain, saying that Barde died in Lafia, the state capital, after a brief illness on Tuesday, September 16. The sources also disclosed that the remains of the APC chieftain would be laid to rest in his hometown at Wamba, in line with Islamic rites.

Nasarawa APC speaks on deputy chairman’s death

Leadership reported that the APC secretary in the state, Chief Otaru Douglas, confirmed the departure of the party chieftain to journalists, stating that his death was a huge loss to the party and the state at large.

Before his emergence as the APC deputy chairman, Barde was the interim management committee (IMC) chairman of the Wamba local government area, during former Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura’s administration.

Nasarawa is one of the north-central states being confronted with the challenges of insecurity, a development that has gained local and international concerns. However, the tension appeared to have been reduced, while the neighbouring states such as Benue and Kogi still face threats.

The insecurity challenges in Nigeria are a problem for everyone in the country, including members of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). Since President Bola Tinubu resumed office, some APC chairmen have been kidnapped, from the ward level to the state.

Insecurity in Nigeria

Recently, some armed men reportedly abducted the wife and daughter of Alhaji Mohammed Swasun, the current chairman of the APC in Patigi Local Government Area (LGA) of Kwara state. On Sunday evening, September 7, the gunmen invaded the Sakpefu community in the Lade district of Patigi LGA, causing tension.

During the attack, the gunmen whisked away Hajia Fatima, the chairman’s wife, and Amina, his daughter, to an unknown destination. A source told Legit.ng that the Patigi police division is aware of the incident. In the same vein, a member of the state executive council of the party who craved anonymity confirmed the incident.

The Swasun family would be the latest victim of kidnapping in the ruling party. Aside from the Kwara APC, some other chairmen of the party, both at the state and ward levels, have been kidnapped since 2023.

Akwa Ibom APC leaders visit Tinubu

Legit.ng earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu has played host to Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom and Senate President Godswill Akpabio at the presidential villa on Friday, July 18.

The presidency announced the visit in a tweet, adding that Governor Eno is now the leader of the APC in Akwa Ibom state.

Governor Eno recently dumped the PDP for the APC, becoming the second of his kind within two months.
