Braves notes: Atlanta’s momentum rolls into final series as Waldrep optioned for Morton’s send-off

ATLANTA — Eight straight postseason appearances for the Atlanta Braves would’ve been nice. But all good things must come to an end.
Right?
That might be the case, but the team had a 10-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday, and they’re still riding the momentum from it.
It makes you wonder whether they can carry this momentum into next season and pull off a complete reversal of their 0-7 start from this year.
“I’ve seen teams at the end of the year that almost seem disinterested. Our guys haven’t done that,” Snitker said. “I think that’s a credit to the individual players that we have here and how they’re wired. The biggest thing is that character of the guys in the room.
The team wraps the season up with a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, starting Friday. The season will conclude with a 3:15 p.m. start on Sunday.
Right-hander Charlie Morton gets the ball on Sunday, likely for the last time of his 18-year major league career. Morton will start, while Chris Sale – who was originally slated to start – will come in once Morton gets his send off.

Right-hander Hurston Waldrep will be optioned following Friday’s game so the team could call-up southpaw Hayden Harris, who’ll serve as an extra arm out of the bullpen so Morton and Sale can both pitch on Sunday, according to Snitker.
Waldrep, who made the final start of his season on Tuesday, finishes his rookie campaign with a 2.88 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 56.1 innings. His sudden rise to prominence gives him an exceptional shot at the starting rotation in 2026.
Snitker remains vague about future
Snitker once again shot down any questions regarding his future during Friday’s pregame press conference.
“We’re going to go out and try to win today,” Snitker said. “It’s been (always) been about today. After Sunday, I’ll reflect and see where I’m at.”
The expectation all throughout the season was that the 69-year-old would retire at season’s end. His contract is expiring and has been told that he will have a role in the organization when he does.
