Brandon Thomas-Asante named in English Championship Team of the Week
By: Stephen Boye
Ghanaian forward Brandon Thomas-Asante has been named in the English Championship Team of the Week following a sensational brace for Coventry City in their 5–0 demolition of Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough — a performance that has also earned him a spot in Ghana’s squad for the final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The 26-year-old forward was electric, scoring twice within 30 minutes:
3rd minute: Opened the scoring with a cheeky close-range finish
33rd minute: Beat two defenders before firing past the keeper
Thomas-Asante’s movement, composure, and clinical edge were key to Frank Lampard’s dominant win, and his inclusion in the Team of the Week reflects his growing influence.
This is the Championship Team of the Week below:
Thomas-Asante joined the Black Stars camp in Casablanca ahead of Ghana’s final qualifiers, replacing injured Inaki Williams in coach Otto Addo’s 24-man squad.
He will be in line for some minutes in the tank as the Black Stars climax their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with the final games against:
Central African Republic on Wednesday, October 8 at the Stade d’Honneur de Meknes, Morocco at 16:00 GMT
Comoros on October 12 at home at the Accra Sports Stadium, scheduled 19:00
With Ghana needing at least four points to secure qualification, his form adds pace, power, and goal threat to Otto Addo’s attacking options.
