BPS Updates Vetting Application Timeline
The Bermuda Police Service [BPS] advised that “effective immediately the standard processing time for vetting applications has been increased from 15 business days to 28 calendar days.”
A police spokesperson said, “This adjustment reflects the operational complexities faced by the Vetting Unit and aligns with international standards. It supports thorough, accurate, and consistent outcomes while maintaining our commitment to fairness, integrity, and timely service.
“What this means for applicants:
“New standard: Vetting results are now targeted within 28 calendar days from the date an application is submitted.
“Early returns: If a vetting file is completed before the 28 days, it will be issued immediately—files will not be held until the end of the period.
“Complex cases: Some applications may require more time where additional checks are needed [for example, when information is unclear or third-party input is required]. In such cases, processing may extend beyond 28 days.
“The BPS will conduct a formal review in three months to assess the impact of this change, identify any challenges, and measure improvements in the quality, accuracy, and consistency of vetting outcomes. Applicants will be informed of the new timeframe at the point of submission.”
