Boy, 9, recalls horror moment he almost died after charger caught fire in bed

A nine-year-old boy almost died in his home when the charging cable became entangled with a metal chain around his neck and caught fire. On October 19 Laura Morrow woke up at 5am to a nightmare when her son Ashtyn Pitts suffered horrific burns around his entire neck and left hand at his home in Jena, Louisiana . His cries for help woke up his parents and he was rushed to the emergency room, before being transported to the LSU-Oschner Burn Unit in Shreveport. Now his mother has issued a desperate plea to other mums with their tablets charging in their beds. Pitts was sleeping next to his charger, which was plugged into an extension cord, his mother Lauren Morrow wrote on Facebook . At some point throughout the night, the connection point slightly separated, allowing his necklace to touch the charger's prongs. 'It was like this loud bang, and then I woke up, and then I started shaking, and I was screaming help, and then I started to stop shaking after a while, and me and my brother ran to the room and we were saying help,' said Pitts to WDSU . The burns Pitts sustained where so devastating that the pattern of the chain can be seen scorched into his neck. After bringing Pitts to the hospital, Morrow broke down at the immense amount of pain her son was in and the realization they she was so close to losing him forever. 'I lost it, I started crying, but I didn't want to see it, so I left the room, so yeah, it hit me hard, because in all reality, we could be planning a funeral right now,' she said to the outlet. Ashtyn is in stable condition and is thankfully expected to make a full recovery.
