Boston-area ice cream shop to close after 23 ‘unforgettable years’

A seaside ice cream shop just outside of Boston is shutting down after nearly a quarter century in business.
Twist & Shake in Revere will close “after 23 unforgettable years” on Monday, Oct. 13, the shop wrote in an Instagram post Thursday, Oct. 9. The longtime spot is closing “to make way for a pending development,” according to the post.
“For over two decades, we’ve had the absolute joy of serving this amazing community,” Twist & Shake wrote. “We’ve laughed, shared stories, celebrated milestones, and built memories with generations of families. To our thousands of loyal customers: thank you. Thank you for making Twist & Shake more than just an ice cream shop.”
While the Revere location is going away, Twist & Shake’s Winthrop location will stay open. The Queen family, who owns the company, also vowed to bring back the Revere location.
“This isn’t the end of Twist & Shake on Revere Beach — we promise you that. Stay tuned! We will be back! Bigger, Better, and Sweeter than ever,” the family wrote in the Instagram post. “We may be closing our doors for now, but the memories and the magic will continue. From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU!”
Twist & Shake was established in 1998 and has been serving its signature soft serve, hard ice cream, frozen yogurt and more in Revere since 2002.
“The Queen Family has continued the tradition of providing the highest quality, affordable product while delivering a memorable customer experience in a community we value and support,” Twist & Shake’s website reads.
Meanwhile, the Winthrop location opened in 2008.
Twist & Shake Revere is located at 82 Revere Beach Blvd.
