Bose Amplifies India Play, Tunes into Mangaluru for R&D

Mangaluru: In a strategic move to strengthen its global footprint, audio giant Bose Professional has set up its first dedicated research and development (R&D) centre outside its main headquarters. The new facility, located in Mangaluru, will serve as a hub for innovation with a strong focus on embedded software, apps, and cloud technologies.

Bose Professional CEO John Maier, who visited the centre earlier this week, said the decision reflects confidence in the city’s growing talent pool. “We are moving faster and innovating more. The Mangaluru centre is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Bose’s product lines, particularly in professional audio,” Maier told TOI.

Beyond R&D: Expanding roles

While the centre started with just one employee and has now grown to 25, the company plans to scale up to 75 members in the near future. Maier added that the office could evolve beyond R&D into sales, operations, and finance, becoming a comprehensive support hub for Bose’s business in India.

India: A key market for pro audio

India is rapidly emerging as a key market for professional audio solutions, with installations in stadiums, airports, and public spaces. Maier noted that the company aims to strike a balance between maintaining its premium brand identity and addressing the market’s demand for affordable, scalable solutions.

Driving innovation in-house

Until recently, Bose relied heavily on third-party partners. With the establishment of the Mangaluru centre, the company is now bringing development in-house to enhance efficiency, improve communication, and accelerate innovation.

“This centre will enable us to deliver superior products with more features and functionality. We are committed to keeping our customers at the forefront by using cutting-edge tools like AI to enhance their experience,” Maier said.

Strategic vision

By tuning into Mangaluru, Bose Professional is amplifying its India strategy at a time when the country is becoming increasingly important for global pro audio solutions. The new centre underscores the company’s long-term vision of leveraging Indian talent to drive innovation and growth worldwide.
