Boomer Esiason 'wouldn't be surprised' by a Craig Carton return to WFAN

The question hanging over WFAN right now is whether former morning show host Craig Carton will return to the station after his Fox Sports show, “Breakfast Ball” was canceled last summer.
Boomer Esiason, Carton’s former co-host at WFAN, seems to think it’s a strong possibility.
“If they want to put him back on the radio and he wants to come back, he’s going to come back, because he’s just too talented not to,” Esiason told Barrett Media on Friday. “I wouldn’t be surprised he’s back on WFAN somewhere. It has to be a place where he has to have the biggest impact. So that would be in mornings or afternoons. It’s not middays.”
Esiason has found success with Greg Giannotti on the morning show and Tiki Barber and Evan Roberts currently hold the afternoon slot.
In July, midday host Sal Licata said on-air that he told Carton to his face, “You’re not taking my spot,” though that was when Carton first returned to the station following a stint in prison related to gambling.
That return, in 2020, saw Carton host in the afternoons with Roberts. He left the station for a second time in the summer of 2023 to work for FS1.
His first stint at the station lasted from 2007-2017 before he was convicted on fraud charges, which stemmed from a gambling problem.
“And by the way, I’m not worried about Craigy coming back,” Licata said during his show. “I told it to his face. This was years ago, whenever he came back the last time. You can come back all you want, you’re not taking my spot.”
The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand reported earlier this year that when “Breakfast Ball” ended that a Carton return to WFAN was “not out of the question.”
