Blue Jays Reveal New Plan for Facing Shohei Ohtani With 1-Word Message

The Toronto Blue Jays lost 6-5 to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 3 of the World Series. Freddie Freeman hit a walk-off home run in the 18th inning, but Shohei Ohtani added to his legacy as well. Earlier this month, Ohtani had what some are calling the greatest postseason game in history. He hit three home runs and struck out 10 batters against the Milwaukee Brewers. On Monday night, he had another historic game, going 4-for-4 with two home runs, two doubles and five walks. He set the postseason record for reaching base in a single game and tied the all-time record. Of his five walks, four were intentional walks. The Blue Jays had seen enough of Ohtani, and manager John Schneider noted in his postgame interview that after seeing him go 4-for-4, the plan was to take the bat out of his hands. He confirmed that fans can expect to see more of that moving forward. "Yeah," Schneider said bluntly after being asked if the Blue Jays plan to continue taking the bat out of Ohtani's hand, in a clip posted by FOX Sports on X. Ohtani has three multi-homer games this October, making it the most in a single postseason. While the Blue Jays plan to limit the damage he can do, they still have to worry about the guys behind him in the lineup. Walking Shohei means pitching to guys like Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman with a man on base. Also, Ohtani is scheduled to start on Tuesday, less than 24 hours after the conclusion of Game 3. If he is not going to have the opportunity to contribute with the bat, he will still have a chance to dominate on the mound.
