Blue Eagles cry foul over Schumacher Kuwali deal

Blue Eagles Football Club has asked the Football Association of Malawi (Fam) to intervene in their dispute with Mozambican club AD Vilankulo. This comes after Vilankulo did not pay $3,000 (about K6 million) loan fee for striker Schumacher Kuwali, who joined the club on a six-month contract in June this year. In a letter dated October 16, 2025, addressed to Fam, Eagles Chief Administration Officer Muhammad Ali claims that Vilankulo breached terms of the agreement. “After agreeing terms, Vilankulo requested that the player travel immediately to Mozambique for medical examinations, to which Eagles obliged. “However, the player never came back to the club after having a medical and blocked all communications from Blue Eagles until this date,” Ali said. He said the club was surprised that Kuwali started playing for Vilankulo without their clearance. “We never issued a written clearance letter or accepted any transfer request to either Club ADV or any other club that could grant permission for the club to register the player in question,” Ali said. “We are also surprised that Club ADV never requested the player’s loan transfer in the Fifa Connect and TMS until the international transfer window closed.” Fam General Secretary Abdul Chiwalo asked for ample time before he could comment on the matter. The former Eagles captain, who is also a police officer, confirmed that he was playing matches in Mozambique. “I was registered as a local player. Since I am Malawian, it was very easy for them to register me,” Kuwali said. Kuwali has scored two goals for Vilankulo in five matches this season. He returned to Mozambique in June this year after playing for two consecutive seasons in Malawi. The talented striker returned home after leaving UD Songo in 2021. Prior to his move to Songo, Kuwali also played for Ferroviario de Nampula, along with John Banda, for three seasons.
