The blowout nature of the Buffalo Bills’ Week 2 win over the New York Jets led to some variation in the team’s snap counts.
To wit: Cornerback Tre’Davious White played 26 defensive snaps in his return to the lineup after missing Week 1 with a groin injury. That was 55% of the defensive total. It’s possible the Bills could have used White more against the Jets, but there was simply no need.
“I was happy for Tre. He worked extremely hard to get himself back,” Bills coach Sean McDermott said Monday. “Felt like he was in a good spot to go. He went out there and played well.”
When White left the lineup, rookie cornerback Dorian Strong – who started in Week 1 – came in and played 21 snaps (45%).
Here are four more takeaways from the Bills’ Week 2 win over the Jets:
1. Elijah Moore took advantage of more playing time. The receiver scored a touchdown against his old team on a rushing attempt. More played 30 offensive snaps, which was 40% of the offensive total.

2. The defensive tackles had a light day. The Bills’ four active defensive tackles all played less than 50% of the defensive snaps. Rookie T.J. Sanders led the way with 23 snaps (49%), followed by fellow rookie Deone Walker (22 snaps, 47%), DaQuan Jones (22 snaps, 47%) and Zion Logue (16 snaps, 34%).
3. Sam Franklin and Keonta Jenkins were limited to special teams. The Bills used Franklin, a safety, on 17 special-teams snaps (61%), while Jenkins – a rookie linebacker called up from the practice squad – played 14 snaps (50%).
4. Dawson Knox again leads the tight ends in playing time. Knox played 41 offensive snaps, which was 55% of the team total. He was targeted five times, which was second on the team to only his position mate, Dalton Kincaid, who got six targets in playing 36 snaps (48%).
Defensive end Joey Bosa was a beast Sunday in the Buffalo Bills’ 30-10 win against the New York Jets, finishing with two tackles, one sack and two forced fumbles. He did that playing just 26 defensive snaps, which was 55% of the team total. Bosa has one sack and an NFL-high three forced fumbles in two weeks.
Player of the game: James Cook
Twice in the Bills’ last three games, including the AFC championship game last season, Cook has been the offense’s best player, and that includes quarterback Josh Allen. Cook carried the offense against the Jets, finishing with 132 rushing yards on 21 attempts and scoring two touchdowns.
Stat of the game: 1-0
That was the score of the turnover battle, won by the Bills. Buffalo has now remarkably won the turnover battle in 24 straight games, which is an NFL record.
Quote of the game
“I think they took it personal. They understand what type of defense they can be. They went out there and then they played extremely well. That’s the standard that we’re looking for from them. They understand that. Very proud of how those guys attacked the entire week of practice, stepped up the occasion.” – Quarterback Josh Allen on how the Bills’ defense rebounded after a poor showing in Week 1
