The 2025-26 NBA season is underway, and while it’s still too early to tell who’s real and who’s fake, no one is doubting the Houston Rockets. The Rockets arguably had the best offseason among many teams, and they are slowly but surely building toward what many expected of them this season. After a 0-2 start, the Rockets are 4-2, having won four in a row, and are currently the No. 5 seed in the West. The addition of Kevin Durant has done wonders, and the expectation is that they will only get better. While Durant is a great addition, the team is still lacking a point guard. The Rockets are without their veteran point guard, Fred VanVleet, who tore his ACL prior to the start of the season. That begs the question of whether the Rockets need to upgrade at point guard, given their championship expectations. (Photo by Jason Miller/Getty Images) Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report listed All-Star point guard Trae Young as a potential trade target for the Rockets. “Playing against the Houston Rockets looks like fighting an army of Ents these days, with four starters standing 6’11”. “It’s fair to question if this is sustainable, however, as there’s a lack of playmaking and shooting with both Amen Thompson and Steven Adams on the floor together. “The Rockets would become an unstoppable force if Trae Young were to join a starting five of Thompson, Jabari Smith Jr., Kevin Durant and Alperen Şengün. Houston could put together an enticing package with Reed Sheppard, Tari Eason, Fred VanVleet and draft picks. “Young is the ultimate table setter in the NBA who spaces the floor well beyond the three-point line. Adding Durant means it’s title-or-bust for Houston, with a pure point guard like Young pushing them to the top of the West.” More news: Lakers’ Austin Reaves Linked to Rising East Team in Potential Trade Young is currently out for four weeks with a sprained MCL. The good news is that this injury is not serious enough to keep him out for the entire season. Nonetheless, it will be curious to see how Young returns from this injury and how the Hawks look without their star player. In the season thus far, Young is averaging 17.8 points through five games along with 2.0 rebounds and 7.8 assists while shooting 37.1 percent from the field and 19.2 percent from three in 27.8 minutes of action. If the Rockets are serious about a title and could see Young as a vital piece for them, then a trade between the two sides is possible.
