Arnusio Lucio, 18, was charged with aggravated murder, murder and manslaughter after allegedly stabbing a 15-year-old boy on the head while he was just walking home with his two friends late Monday night in Yigo.
The suspect ran after the three minor boys.
While the boys were all running away from the suspect who “appeared to be irate and intoxicated and cussing,” the victim fell to the ground, according to a magistrate’s complaint filed in the Superior Court.
Lucio ran toward him and stabbed him, witnesses said, based on the complaint.
The boy was later pronounced dead at the Guam Regional Medical City.
He had a 3-inch puncture wound on the left temple of the head, and a 2-inch laceration on his outer left hand from the index finger to the thumb knuckle, police observed, according to the magistrate’s complaint.
A witness saw the victim “bleeding from his head and wrist,” court documents stated, and the suspect ran off.
Lucio, the suspect, was arrested on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, he was charged with aggravated murder, murder and manslaughter, all first-degree felonies, the magistrate’s complaint stated.
In the complaint, Lucio admitted to grabbing a knife as left his residence and walked toward the roadway yelling.
He said he encountered three males as he approached Chalan Somnak, shuffled an individual in a black shirt, causing him to lose his balance, mounted him, and stabbed him in the shoulder, Lucio said, according to court documents.
But police observed the boy was stabbed in the head, based on the magistrate’s complaint.
Fled the scene
Prior to the stabbing, Arnusio Lucio was involved in a violent altercation with his older brother, Ampress Lucio, at their residence on Chalan Estreyas at the Zero Down Subdivision in Yigo.
Guam Police Department officers said Arnusio left the house with a kitchen knife, walked toward the roadway yelling, and then encountered three boys.
After the stabbing, he fled the scene, returned to a friend’s house where he had been earlier in the day, hid the knife, changed clothes, and later led officers to the location where both the knife and clothing were recovered, according to court documents.
The boy was transported to GRMC and arrived at approximately 11:01 p.m. without a pulse.
Medical personnel attempted resuscitation but pronounced him dead shortly after.
Another police officer responded to the initial call at Chalan Pulan Street, and met with a man who confirmed that he had contacted emergency services and he escorted officers to two minors who were present during the stabbing.
First witness
The first minor witness told police the three boys were walking home from a friend’s house when they encountered a man holding a kitchen knife approximately 10 to 12 inches long, the complaint stated.
The man, later identified as Arnusio Lucio, appeared irate, intoxicated, and was yelling in Chuukese.
The witness said the man raised the knife and lunged toward him, prompting all three boys to run.
He saw the victim and the other minor witness collide and fall. He then saw the man toward the victim and stabbed him before fleeing west, according to court documents.
Second witness
The other minor witness confirmed they were walking toward the victim’s house when they encountered a man.
After the group turned to run, the other minor witness and the victim collided and fell.
He then saw the man standing over the victim with the knife before fleeing the scene himself.
Both witnesses called for help, court documents stated.
Altercation at suspect’s home
During the investigation, officers also learned of a related incident involving Arnusio Lucio’s older brother, Apress Lucio, 24, who was charged with aggravated assault as a third-degree felony and family violence as a misdemeanor.
At 3 a.m. Tuesday, officers conducted a suspect check at the Chalan Estreyas residence.
They were met by a man who confirmed the brothers had argued earlier and that Arnusio Lucio had left the house.
Officers saw a man peeking from behind a couch, later identified as Apress Lucio. He was wearing a white tank top with visible bloodstains. Officers took him into custody and transported him to the Dededo Precinct Command for questioning.
Apress Lucio told police he had returned from work around 4 p.m. on Monday and began drinking a 12-pack of Budweiser.
He said an argument broke out between Arnusio Lucio and their father, which escalated when Apress Lucio became involved.
During the altercation, Apress said Arnusio allegedly pushed him onto a futon, and in response, Apress struck Arnusio in the head with a heavy black ceramic plate, court documents stated.
Apress then attempted to stop the bleeding with a blanket before Arnusio left the residence yelling, court documents stated.
Later that day, officers interviewed Arnusio Lucio, who stated that Apress Lucio had woken him up between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. by allegedly punching him multiple times and striking him on the head with an unknown object.
Officers saw a minor scratch or laceration on his head consistent with his account.
Apress Lucio was formally arrested at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Arnusio Lucio remains in custody and faces aggravated murder, murder, and one count of manslaughter all as first degree felonies.
An autopsy was conducted by Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Keng-Chih “Kenny” Su.
The preliminary results stated that the victim died because of a stab wound and the manner of his death was ruled a homicide, GPD said.
