Blackhawks’ power surge sends Red Wings to third loss in a row

DETROIT – One team was unstoppable on the power play, the other had ample opportunities and couldn’t covert. The Detroit Red Wings’ struggles offensively and with the man-advantage continued Sunday in a 5-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks at Little Caesars Arena. The Blackhawks got power-play goals from Connor Bedard, Teuvo Teravainen and Tyler Bertuzzi. The Red Wings went 0 for 5 on the power play. Detroit (9-7-0) has lost three in a row, scoring two goals in the process and has tallied only four goals in its past four. Much of that has to do with a power play that is 0 for 13 in four games. The Blackhawks (8-5-3) have won three in a row under former Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill. Arvid Soderblom made 44 saves for the win, playing against brother Elmer. Bertuzzi, an ex-Red Wing, received a double-minor for roughing and unsportsmanlike conduct at 16:24 of the second period. The Red Wings failed to capitalize. Bertuzzi then scored on the power play at 5:09 of the third, slipping a shot through John Gibson’s pads, to put his team ahead 3-1. It was his sixth goal in three games and ninth of the season. That sequence seemed to take some steam out of the Red Wings, who had beaten the Blackhawks five consecutive times. Teravainen snapped a 1-1 tie at 3:22 of the second period, 33 seconds into a power play, by firing in a one-timer. Dylan Larkin was penalized for tripping 26 seconds into the game. It took the Blackhawks only 33 seconds to capitalize as Bedard wired in a shot from the faceoff circle at the 59-second mark. Larkin answered with his ninth goal at 4:19. He cleaned up in the crease after a shot by Lucas Raymond trickled through Soderblom. The Red Wings host the Anaheim Ducks Thursday in the third game of their four-game homestand (7 p.m., FanDuel Sports Network).
