Black History Month, held each October, is an important time to come together, reflect, and celebrate the rich contributions of our ethnic minority communities. To mark the occasion, a special event took place at Jerviston Community Centre in Motherwell. The event, hosted by the newly established Cultural Committee, featured a variety of entertainment, food, activities, and guest speakers. Local people attended alongside representatives from several organisations, including Bestway Community Development, Waverley Care, Fool On, Diamonds in the Community, Voluntary Action North Lanarkshire (VANL), North Lanarkshire Carers Together, and Lanarkshire Carers. Provost Kenneth Duffy said: “It was a fantastic event that gave the whole community a chance to come together, learn, and celebrate the valuable contributions of our ethnic minority communities.” Councillor Ayeshah Khan, North Lanarkshire Council’s Equalities Champion, added: “Black History Month is a time to honour the achievements, culture, and history of our ethnic minority communities. “Events like this help build understanding and celebrate the diversity that makes North Lanarkshire stronger.
