Rincon de la Victoria is about to show its fighting spirit. On October 25, the coastal town will host the fourth Chikara Karate Championship, bringing together 150 competitors from across Malaga province for a day of kicks, katas, and community.
The event will take place at the Ruben Ruzafa Sports Hall in Torre de Benagalbon, from 10 AM to 2 PM, with athletes aged from just four years old up to veteran categories. Thirty divisions will be contested across katas and kumite, with competitors ranging from white belts to black belts and beyond.
Rincon de la Victoria, a sports hub in Andalusia
According to local sports councillor Antonio José Martín, trophies will go to the top three in each category, while every participant will receive a medal. The medal will be a small but powerful reminder that sport starts with inclusion.
Mayor Francisco Salado says events like this underline Rincon’s growing role as a sports hub in Andalusia. “We’re proud to promote karate and other activities that encourage healthy lifestyles from an early age,” he said.
Rincon’s sports calendar has been expanding fast. From triathlons and beach runs to padel tournaments, the town has invested heavily in new infrastructure and facilities, positioning itself as one of Andalusia’s go-to spots for local and regional sporting events.
A new mascot, the cartoon tiger
This year’s championship also comes with a playful twist. The launch of its new mascot, a cartoon tiger called Chikarito, who will become the official face of the event.
Organised by Rincon’s Sports Department and the Chikara Karate School, the tournament will feature three competition areas, six referees, and an energy that only a community-driven event can bring.
In Rincon de la Victoria, sport is, as everywhere, about medals, but also about movement, motivation, and giving the next generation something to aim for. So, don’t forget, on October 25, karate will take centre stage.
