BJP Chevalla MP Konda Visveswara Reddy on Tuesday squarely blamed the previous BRS government for stalled Chevella highway works in the last 10 years which had resulted in ghastly road accidents, including the latest one on Monday which took 19 lives. Expressing his anquish and sorrow over the accident and offering his condolences to the bereaved family members, the MP contested the BRS campaign against him for the delay in the delay in the highway expansion works. “When it was I who had actually fought for the expansion of the highway, how I can be blamed? The real estate interests of the BRS leaders was the primary source for the project not taking off as there was opposition from the local people over the faulty road expansion works as it has led to land acquisition problems,” he claimed. The MP stated that he was also for saving the decades-old banyan trees on the highway and it could be expanded on both sides of these giant trees without cutting them away. “I appeal to the Congress government to have a re-look at the land acquisition and consider building a straight alignment as it would save lot of land along with the trees,” he said. In a separate campaign meeting at Erragadda, Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao expressed concern over the deplorable civic conditions in the colonies and slums of the Jubilee Hills assembly constituency like drainage system, roads, open manholes and streetlights. It was regrettable that municipal officials, corporators and local public representatives were neglecting people’s problems, Rao alleged and said that issues like flooding localities during rains and foul smell pose a serious threat to public health. Both the BRS and Congress as both parties have completely failed in solving public issues even though these parties had opportunities to govern in Telangana. Hence, the time for change must begin from the current by-poll and appealed people to vote for BJP candidate L Deepak Reddy. Jana Sena support Meanwhile, Jana Sena Party Telangana president Sankar Goud has offered the party’s support to the BJP in the bypoll and will participate in the campaign after a meeting with Mr. Ramchander Rao and Union Minister for Coal & Mines G. Kishan Reddy.
