This afternoon, applause rang out at Windsor Castle as the Red Arrows put on a spectacular display to celebrate US President Donald Trump’s second state visit to the UK. But elsewhere, however, the mood was far less jubilant, with folk punk singer and activist Billy Bragg adding his voice to the outcry over Mr Trump’s visit, in a fiery social media post. Ahead of President Trump’s landing on British soil, Bragg shared a flyer for a ‘Trump Not Welcome’ demonstration, held at London’s Portland Place. Attendees were asked to gather at around 2 pm today, at around the same time that President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were enjoying a private lunch with senior members of the royal family . Asking followers to join him in a post dated September 15, Essex-born Bragg described the state visit as a “moment of national humiliation”. Hemiliation”, warning that “sucking up to bullies never pays off” Bragg wrote: “Donald Trump’s visit to the UK this week is a moment of national humiliation. He will regard the red carpet rolled out for him as an act of fealty that gives him the right to punish the UK should we do anything that displeases him. “Sucking up to bullies never pays off. They sense weakness and revel in exploiting it. This Wednesday, we have a chance to show not just that Trump is not welcome, but also that we reject the Trumpification of UK politics. I’ll be playing some songs at the Stop Trump rally in Parliament Square. Hope to see you there.” Today, Bragg, 67, took to the stage before crowds in Parliament Square, singing his protest song Hundred Year Hunger, and telling those assembled that President Trump could end the war in Gaza with “one word”. This rally will also feature various speakers, while public order conditions restrict attendees to Parliament Square and Whitehall. Meanwhile, President Trump has this evening also been slammed by Channel 4 , with the broadcaster vowing to expose the businessman turned politician’s “untruths”. In a series of scathing social media posts, Channel 4 stated that it will air special coverage during POTUS’s State Visit to the United Kingdom . Ian Katz, chief content officer at Channel 4, said: “Donald J Trump loves making history. So on Wednesday Channel 4 will do just that: we’ll show what we believe to be the longest uninterrupted reel of untruths, falsehoods and distortions ever broadcast on television. “We hope it will remind viewers how disorientating and dangerous the world becomes when the most powerful man on earth shows little regard for the truth. And if President Trump cares to watch along after the state banquet, he may even clear up a few misconceptions.” Trump V The Truth will show President Trump alleging making 100 falsehoods, distortions and inaccuracies, either written or spoken, during his time in office.
