Throughout the first eight weeks of the 2025 NFL season, the Buffalo Bills have gone 5-2. They have had some big ups and some major down as well. However, they still remain as one of the top potential Super Bowl contenders in the AFC. Led by Josh Allen, the Bills are always going to have a fighting chance. In order to improve those chances, there are many who believe that Buffalo should be active ahead of the upcoming NFL trade deadline. So far this season, there have been a couple of clear needs on both sides of the football. The Bills could use help at the wide receiver position offensively and they could also use help on the defensive line. With Ed Oliver now out for an extended period of time due to injury, a defensive tackle could make a ton of sense for Buffalo. Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated has suggested a trade for Buffalo that would see the team acquire New York Giants star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence. His trade idea would have the Bills sending a 2026 first-round pick to the Giants for Lawrence, although he does admit that a first-round pick might be too expensive. “While Lawrence is unlikely to land a first-round pick, the Bills’ sheer desperation and the glaring lack of interior defensive line help on the market elevate this to a must-consider for the Giants,” Orr wrote. “Also, Joe Schoen was Bills GM Brandon Beane’s longtime assistant, if that matters for much.” Lawrence has been one of the NFL’s best defensive tackles for years. He has had a bit of a down year in 2025, but there is no question that he’s more than capable of getting things rolling any given week. In eight games this season, Lawrence has recorded 20 total tackles, 0.5 sacks, an interception, and three defended passes. Last season in 12 games, he recorded 44 tackles, nine sacks, a forced fumble, and a defended pass. Those qualities would help take the Buffalo defense to the next level. At 27 years old, Lawrence would be a long-term pickup as opposed to a rental option. That alone would make this trade option intriguing. Expect to hear a lot of rumors surrounding the Bills as the trade deadline draws closer. Buffalo should strongly consider getting aggressive in its pursuit for a Super Bowl. For more on the Buffalo Bills and general NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.
