Solomos’ company accounts have been used for $5000-a-week pocket money, to make mortgage payments on his property portfolio, to fund more than $30,000 a week in payments to his ex-wife and to give luxury cars to senior staff. Portelli, who is famously nicknamed “Lambo Guy” and upped his public profile as a prolific buyer on reality-TV show The Block, said in September he was in negotiations to purchase a stake in the business to assist in paying off debts and keep more than 800 staff employed. But in a statement posted to Instagram on Friday night, Portelli said though he wanted to be part of “keeping such an iconic name alive” for the gym’s loyal members, the deal could not go ahead. “Unfortunately, we couldn’t see eye to eye and make the deal work, and I’ve had to pull out,” he said.
