Billie Eilish calls out billionaires in front of Mark Zuckerberg: ‘Give your money away, shorties’

Billie EIlish has called out the billionaires and urged them to use their money to help people “that need it.” The 23-year-old “bad guy” singer accepted the Music Innovator Award at the WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards on Wednesday (29 October). She used her acceptance speech to draw attention to the wealth in the room as well as the disparity between that and the lives of other people across the world. Listening to the speech was Mark Zuckerberg, ranked by Forbes as the third richest person in the world at the time of writing with a net worth of around $226 billion. “We’re in a time right now where the world is really, really bad and really dark and people need empathy and help more than, kind of, ever, especially in our country,” said the LGBTQ+ musician. “I’d say if you have money, it would be great to use it for good things, maybe give it to some people that need it.” After a smattering of applause the “Birds of a Feather” singer continued. “Love you all, but there’s a few people in here that have a lot more money than me,” she said. “If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? No hate, but yeah, give your money away, shorties.” People magazine reports that Zuckerberg didn’t clap at the end of Eilish’s speech. @consequence Billie Eilish put her money where her mouth is while calling on billionaires to do the same during the WSJ.
