Bill Maher Says New Ballroom Means Trump's 'Not Leaving' The White House

Bill Maher sees Trump’s planned ballroom as a clear indicator that he plans on calling the White House home for a long time to come. On Friday’s “Real Time,” the late night host was talking to former Republican National Committee Chair Michael Steele and former Biden White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield about Trump’s controversial construction project. Maher was initially dismissive when Steele called this week’s East Wing demolition the “destruction of a symbol of this government, of our democracy, of our pluralistic society.” “It’s a building, Mike,” Maher replied, before noting that other presidents have also made changes to the White House, albeit smaller ones. “I can’t get this mad about everything, Mike. I just can’t,” he added. “I’m not mad. It’s not a question of being mad,” Steele continued. “It’s a question of understanding what the symbolism is and what it means to Trump.” That’s when Maher cut in, “The symbolism is, he’s not leaving. That’s what bothers me about it. Who puts in a giant ballroom if you’re leaving?” He continued: “That’s the issue, not the building.” Constitutional term limits prohibit Trump from becoming president again in 2028. In an interview published this week, however, former Trump strategist Steve Bannon declared Trump is “gonna get a third term” and claimed “there’s a plan” to get around those rules.
