The LSU Tigers have been one of the most disappointing teams in college football this season, and it resulted in head coach Brian Kelly losing his job midway through his fourth year with the program. Kelly won three straight bowl games at LSU and went 34-14 with the Tigers, but patience ran out in the Bayou, and now, LSU is searching for a replacement. Could they potentially try to steal Bill Belichick away from North Carolina? Stewart Mandel of The Athletic received such a question in his most recent mailbag, and he seems to be intrigued by the idea. “I dig it. Makes a lot of sense. I assume those rogue UNC board members will counter by hiring Brian Kelly,” Mandel wrote. The chances of this happening are obviously very slim. Yes, there was some chatter that North Carolina could potentially part ways with Belichick after his miserable start in Chapel Hill, but that talk has quieted down considerably. Plus, would LSU even really want Belichick right now based on how rough of a time he is currently having at UNC? The Tigers definitely might want to hire a big name, but they also surely want to bring in someone who is proven. Belichick was an all-time great coach on the NFL level, winning six Super Bowls as a head coach and two more as a defensive coordinator, but his NCAA resume is not exactly impressive. To be fair, Belichick took the job back in December, so he didn’t really have a chance to get a ton of recruiting done, but all we have to work with right now is his seven-game sample size.
