A major political controversy has erupted in Tamil Nadu over the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls, with Chief Minister MK Stalin convening an all-party meeting to challenge the exercise. A VCK leader made a startling claim, stating, 'This is not SIR. This is indirectly writing in NRC. They want to do some mischief in this.' The DMK and its allies allege the SIR is a ploy by the BJP to manipulate voter lists ahead of elections, a charge the BJP denies. Adding to the drama, actor Vijay's TVK party, despite also opposing the SIR, skipped the DMK's meeting, calling it a diversion from corruption allegations. This move was sharply criticized by DMK ally VCK as being motivated by 'BJP phobia.' Meanwhile, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has defended the revision process, part of a nationwide drive in 12 states.
