The Highlands’ biggest bonfire night display will be back in Inverness next week, Highland Council has confirmed. The Inverness Events and Festivals Working Group have confirmed that the free-of-charge bonfire and fireworks display will return to the city’s Bught Park, Wednesday, November 5. The evening will start at 5pm with the opening of the catering village. The bonfire will then be lit at 6pm by Provost of Inverness and Area Councillor Glynis Campbell Sinclair, followed by a 20-minute spectacular fireworks display at 7pm. Cllr Campbell Sinclair, said: “It is a real pleasure for the Working Group to once again provide a community bonfire and fireworks display. This is a free-to-attend event and is a key part of our annual calendar, thanks to the support by the Inverness Common Good Fund.” “We hope the many thousands of anticipated spectators have a fun-filled, safe and enjoyable evening.” She added: “Scottish Fire and Rescue Service bonfire safety advice ‘is to always attend an organised bonfire and firework display’ and we are pleased to be able to provide this event in Inverness which supports SFRS advice.” Constructed by The Highland Council, the bonfire is one of the largest erected in Scotland, thanks to support from the local business community who donate hundreds of pallets. This year the pallets have kindly been donated by Whyte and Mackay. The 20-minute musical fireworks display will be staged by the award winning Fireworx Scotland team and will start at approximately 7pm. Pedestrians are also reminded that the Infirmary footbridge is currently closed and alternative routes should be used to reach the event at Bught Park. Additionally, drivers are reminded that parking restrictions will be in place around the Bught area on Wednesday night (November 5) with priority access maintained for the emergency services, disabled drivers, and local residents throughout the night. A disabled parking area for Blue Badge holders will be located at the city centre end of the grandstand at Bught Park and drivers are asked to enter by the entrance close to the junction of Torvean Avenue and Dunachton Road. All other drivers are asked to use the car parking spaces available in the city centre and to park considerately if choosing to leave their vehicle elsewhere. Given the many thousands of people who attend, the council has advised people to set off early and walk to the show where possible. Those in attendance should also dress appropriately for the weather. Visitors to the site are requested to stay within the areas marked for safe viewing and to follow the instructions of the announcer and stewards on site. Do you want to respond to this article?
