Big update in alleged baby killer case

Shane John Marshall fronted Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday, where he was booked to answer to the charge he killed a seven-week-old baby boy in July last year.

Craig Caldicott, appearing for Mr Marshall, asked Magistrate Justin Wickens for a six-week adjournment, telling the court he had hired a forensics expert to go through the prosecution’s material.

“We have obtained all the forensics science files, including all the photos … and my forensic pathologist has been engaged to review the material,” he said.

“I would suggest six weeks for all that to occur.”

South Australian Police allege Mr Marshall inflicted injuries on the infant on the afternoon of July 24.

Paramedics rushed the boy to Adelaide’s Women’s and Children’s Hospital, the police said, about 4pm that afternoon, but the baby died six weeks later from his injuries.

Magistrate Justin Wickens agreed to the adjournment requests and listed the answer charge hearing for November 4.

Mr Marshall is on bail and appeared in the dock in a business shirt and tie.
