Former WWE Champion Big E has made a somber admission regarding the future of his in-ring career. He stated that he feels his “career is kind of behind me.”
The New Day member made the comments during an appearance on the “What’s Your Story with Stephanie McMahon” podcast. While discussing mental health and his journey, Big E reflected on his current role, which has been outside the ring since his career-threatening neck injury in 2022.
While speaking with McMahon, Big E expressed surprise at being invited onto the show. He humbly compared himself to previous high-profile guests.

“For all the people you’ve had on, I’m like, ‘why me?’ My career is kind of behind me. I’m someone who is appreciative, I think I had a really good career and I’m proud of it, but you’ve had John Cena, Livvy Dunne, some of the biggest names,” he said (H/T to WrestlingNews.co).
Big E’s in-ring career came to a sudden halt on the March 11, 2022, episode of WWE SmackDown. During a match, he landed on his head from a belly-to-belly suplex at ringside, resulting in fractured C1 and C6 vertebrae.
While he thankfully avoided any spinal cord damage, the injury has kept him out of action indefinitely. In the years since, he has transitioned into a successful role as a panelist on WWE’s premium live event pre-shows.
Before his injury, Big E amassed a decorated career. He is a former WWE Champion, Intercontinental Champion, King of the Ring, and a multi-time tag team champion as a member of The New Day.
While Big E has transitioned to a non-wrestling role, his New Day brothers, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, continue to carry the group’s legacy. The duo, who recently signed new long-term contracts, are not competing at this Saturday’s Crown Jewel event but are expected to be a focal point of the Raw tag team division on the road to Survivor Series.
