Big Celebrity Traitors 2026 update as BBC makes announcement

The BBC has confirmed that The Celebrity Traitors will be back for a second series in 2026. This announcement comes after comedian Alan Carr was crowned the winner of the inaugural series last week, having successfully deceived fellow contestants Nick Mohammed and David Olusoga to secure the entire £87,500 prize pot for his chosen charity. Kalpna Patel-Knight, head of entertainment at the BBC, praised the show's production team, saying: "Studio Lambert have done an outstanding job as The Celebrity Traitors has well and truly captivated the nation, becoming a bona fide highlight of the year bringing record numbers of people together to enjoy every twist and turn." She added: "In 2026 the doors of the castle will be opened again to welcome celebrity players to the game to see who can charm, who can scheme and ultimately who can survive in series two, which promises to be just as unmissable as the first." According to the BBC, the first episode of the show's debut series is the most-watched single episode on TV this year so far, with 14.8 million views across 28 days. The final episode attracted an average of 11.1 million viewers, peaking at 12 million. Alongside the second series of The Celebrity Traitors, podcast agency Platform Media will produce new episodes of companion show The Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked, available via BBC Sounds, BBC Two and iPlayer. The inaugural series of the programme was filled with unexpected twists and turns, including Mohammed banishing former England rugby player Joe Marler, whom he had formed a pact with, due to a mistaken suspicion of betrayal. Other memorable moments included actress Celia Imrie audibly breaking wind during a mission, and Carr seizing the opportunity to 'kill off' his friend, singer Paloma Faith. The show, which kicked off with 19 celebrities, involves contestants attempting to identify the traitors amongst them whilst undertaking a variety of challenges to add funds to the prize pot. If a traitor remains among the finalists at the end of the series, the faithfuls - those who are not traitors - miss out on the money, and the traitor scoops the entire prize. Series one of Celebrity Traitors is currently available for streaming on BBC iPlayer, while the first series of The Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked can also be streamed via BBC Sounds and BBC iPlayer.
