The civilian series of Big Brother on ITV has kicked off (Picture: Vianney Le Caer/Shutterstock)
Big Brother fans have labelled the show’s ITV live launch as having the ‘dullest twist ever’.
Co-hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best returned to our screens last night to introduce viewers to the 12 new housemates entering the legendary house.
The ultimate social experiment, which began on Channel 4 in 2000 before moving to Channel 5, was fully revamped and relaunched by ITV in 2023.
However, despite viewers eagerly anticipating the announcement of the new cast, fans have been left seething over a ‘disaster’ twist.
Shortly after welcoming the new housemates in, AJ and Will revealed that contestants would be subject to a special vote that would see one person evicted before they barely had time to settle in.
Out of three housemates who received the most ‘evil eyes’ from their fellow contestants, only two will emerge from the ‘exit room’.

But viewers will only get to find out who exactly is being evicted on tonight’s show, much to the disappointment of fans.
Taking to X, social media users slammed the decision to include a ‘backdoor exit’ as a ‘cheap twist’.
@zanecaspersz said: ‘So… turns out the eyes meant absolutely nothing in the theme / game changing twist.

@Mr_Light_Man added: ‘Soooooo it’s launch night, and @ITV make @bbuk do the dullest twist ever, ruin it by not doing it live and doing a backdoor eviction, and then add insult to injury and basically cancel the Live Feed.
‘On launch night. What a disaster of a series this already is…! #BBUK #BBLL’

@AlfieS12 also wrote: ‘If you’re gonna do a night one eviction, show it on the launch. Or p*** off. #BBUK.’
@Simply_BBUK commented: ”🤔 Don’t build the whole show around an eviction on the first night then don’t even show them being evicted. Hmm #BBUK’
Meanwhile, @superTV247 cried: ‘All we asked for, literally ALL WE ASKED FOR!!! Was an end to backdoor evictions. So they decided to do a backdoor eviction on the very first night of the series #BBUK’
Elsewhere on X, many fans called the revelation a ‘cheap twist’ while @brighterfiles claimed that ‘two of the best people we’re going to have all season’ are already up for eviction.
@LikeATattoooooo summed up the discontent of fans best by writing: ”Sorry what? A launch night eviction that you don’t even see on the night. THAT is how they’ve chosen to kick off this series? A backdoor?! The very thing all real fans hate.. #bbuk’
AJ and Will offered a sneak peak on Late And Live as all the housemates on the sofa all got to watch what was going on in the exit room.
Watch Big Brother Sunday-Friday at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
